First time Users:
A modern PC running at least the XP operating system and an Internet Explorer V7.
Web site... "28dayslater - The UK UE Urbex Urban Exploration Forums" at http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=50 is well worth a look to see the interest taken by others in 'our' underground Posts. I've extracted a file called 'Google.zip' from one of their 'Stickies' which gives the yellow 'Placemark Pins' for the Posts on Google Maps.
Click to download the data file 'Google.zip'
Extract the file called 'rocposts.kml' and save it (say... to the Desktop).
Start the Google Search engine ( http://www.google.co.uk/ ) on your Browser and select Maps along the top. [ Or link direct using http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl ]
Select 'File' and then select 'Open' / 'Browse...' / select 'Files of type' (defaults to HTML files) and set to 'All Files'. Find the file 'rocposts.kml' / click 'Open'. Now click 'OK' on the previous small window to load the file. (Soon!) a new window will appear. [Google Version 4.2... is required and the programme will update as necessary, if allowed]
A map of the world will (soon!) appear.
Left button / Right button / Left button and drag the 'small hand' cursor will navigate you to the UK. Rolling the mouse wheel will change the magnification. England will appear yellow with 'saved Placemark Pins' but NI pins are displaced and can be found in a cluster west of the Bay of Biscay!! The Posts however are in their correct places and are shown as little round brown dots when the magnification is high enough.
Double Left click on the part of the UK you are interested in and the map will swing round to put that choice in the middle of the screen. When you have found a Post you are interested in, a single left click will give the lower panel of Subbrit detail of that Post. [The 'Subbrit' site can found at http://www.subbrit.org.uk/rsg/roc/index2.shtml]
Further access:
An icon link was created on the desktop when the Google Earth was first installed. Use this icon for convenience. The file 'rocposts.kml' is still loaded as can be seen on the lhs panel marked 'Places'
OR Goto... Start / All Programs / Google Earth / select... Google Earth. [Option: at this point Right click 'Google Earth' / select 'Send To' / select Desktop (create shortcut) and an icon link will appear on your Desktop for future use.]
